Guard Your Heart

Some of us have read this, heard this, maybe even tried to live by it. But what does it really mean to guard your heart?
To me, guard your heart doesn’t mean just strictly for those who you may have a relationship with.
I believe that guarding your heart should be not only in relationships with others, but what you take in and feed yourself with.
What you may take in and experience is what comes out in your outward appearance. I think regarding this scripture in Proverbs, we are to guard our heart daily.
How?

  • You may need to evaluate not only yourself but those who you let into your life. Your peers, your girlfriend or boyfriend. Who you let speak into your life and influence you.
    • Guarding your heart requires you to constantly keep your heart pure of all evil.
So, maybe you need to start watching who you let speak into you or even influence you.
  • I also think the next step into guarding your heart is watching what you watch on television and what you follow on social media.
    • Social media can become a huge influence as to how you may view others, view your religion, or even compromise your own values in life.
Look at what you’re following, what you’re listening to, and what you’re watching. Guard your heart of all things that make your heart impure.
  • The last suggestion I would like to add is to guard your heart on the Word of God. Really diving deep and reading scripture helps guard your heart. It helps guard your thoughts that are unholy. Reading the Word of God truly guards your heart and sets you up for success.
  1. Evaluate the people in your life.
  2. Watch what you’re listening to, watching, and who you are following.
  3. Read the beautiful Word that the Lord provides us with.
Ironic that I’m posting this on Valentine’s Day, huh?
Guard your heart. All of you.

Some evaluations I have learned along the way of really in the process of guarding my heart.
You become what you worship.
You become what you let into your life.
You start compromising your values by what you watch and listen to.

I'm praying for each of you who come across this post. I pray that you will evaluate yourself and truly start guarding your heart. Everything you do flows from your heart. I pray that your actions, words, what you watch and who you let influence you really purifies your heart. Watch what you take in, it really shows. I pray that none of those things I listed make your heart unclean. But you allow the Lord to speak through and into your life.

I love you. Thank you for all of your support and your encouragement in this past month. I really do appreciate it!

Proverbs 4:23 “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
